The Honor of Your Presence is Requested

At the 200th Anniversary

Of the Settlement of the Horralls

In the Northwest Territory

On Memorial Day Weekend 2008

In Vincennes, Indiana

About William Horrall:

William and Mary Horrall resided in Albemarle and Amherst Counties, Virginia, in the mid-1700s, where they raised four sons and a daughter.  They held patents on 725 acres of land, which they farmed, and their neighbors in the county included Thomas Jefferson and the Clark family (brothers George Rogers and William).  Their sons were Thomas, William, James, and Cleaver.  Their daughter, whose name we do not know, moved to Ohio.  Sons William and James were Revolutionary War Soldiers.  William was a soldier in Yorktown when Lord Cornwallis surrendered.  In 1784, brothers William and Thomas moved to Union County, South Carolina.  They lived there until 1808/09 when he and Thomas, along with the family of their Methodist minister John Wallace, moved to then Knox County in the Northwest Territory.  Their home site is in present-day Daviess County, where they farmed and established Bethel United Methodist Church.  The Church, in its third building, continues to thrive today.

About the 200th Anniversary Celebration:   Plan on spending the three-day weekend in Knox or Daviess County.  We will offer opportunities to tour family historic sites in Daviess County, including the homestead sites of our pioneer families, Bethel UMC, and cemeteries (including the grave site of our revolutionary war forefather).  Another side trip will allow participants to attend a revolutionary war battle re-enactment which is part of the Vincennes Rendezvous weekend.  Plan to enjoy home-spun entertainment as we round out a day by featuring talented members of our family. We will also play games and have a watermelon seed spitting contest.
